JOSHUA ELEK: WATERCOLORS

Nimisila C-6: #21

Darn. I’m genuinely disappointed. I hoped I’d be able to transfer some of the success I had at smaller versions into this larger format, but I feel like I ended up with a little bit of a junk drawer painting.

I don’t want to write a whole lot about this, because I’m feeling defeated.

After 20 drafts, which cost me at least $50 in paper, and countless hours painting, writing, sketching, and studying – this end result isn’t what I had hoped for.

The good news is that this is a good bench mark. I feel like this is a genuine representation of my best effort and current ability. So, while I’m disappointed that this isn’t what I had in mind exactly, I am glad to have something I can look back on in another year or ten, so I can see improvement. I won’t be able to say that this was anything other than my best effort after two years of painting.

At least it’s better than my first try.
